Alert Profile Notification Settings

Alert notifications are highly customizable and are configured directly within each Alert Profile. You have granular control over the recipients, frequency, and timing of notifications – including the ability to trigger alerts specifically based on whether they occur inside or outside of defined Business Hours.

Figure 1 illustrates the notification settings for an alert profile, configured to send immediate email notifications to Taylor Blackwell and Jane Doe for each active alert detected outside the defined business hours. A detailed description of these settings follows.

Alert Profile Notification Configuration

Who Receives Notifications?

For each Alert Profile, you can specify a list of Recipients. These are the users who will receive email notifications when an alert is triggered. You can add up to 5 recipients to an alert profile.

How Often Are Notifications Sent? (Frequency)

You can control the timing and volume of notifications using the "Email Notification Frequency" setting in your Alert Profile. The options include:

  • None: Email notification is not going to be sent.
  • Every Event: An email is sent immediately for every single alert that matches the profile's criteria. This is best for high-severity alerts that require immediate attention.
  • Once a Day: You will receive a single summary email once per day containing all the alert events that occurred over the last 24 hours. This is ideal for managing less critical alerts and reducing email noise.

When Are Notifications Sent? (Business Hours)

In addition to frequency, you can use the "Business Hours Configuration" to further refine when notification emails are dispatched:

  • All Hours: You will receive notifications for all alerts, regardless of when they occur. This is the default setting.
  • Inside Business Hours: You will only receive notifications for alerts that are triggered within your defined business hours.
  • Outside Business Hours: You will only receive notifications for alerts that are triggered outside of your defined business hours.

Combining frequency and business hours rules gives you precise control. For example, you could configure a profile to send an email for every critical event that happens outside of business hours, but only a daily digest for routine events.

Notification types

What's in the Notification Email?

The notification email is designed to give you key information at a glance. It includes:

  • The name of the Alert Profile that was triggered.
  • A summary of the event or events.
  • The time the event(s) occurred (in UTC).
  • A convenient "View Details" link that takes you directly to the Active Alerts page in the InfraSOS portal, with all the necessary filters pre-applied to show you the specific alerts mentioned in the email.

Special Notifications: Disabled Alert Profiles

To prevent issues with misconfigured or failing alert profiles, the system automatically monitors them for synchronization errors. If an alert profile fails to fetch data correctly, it will be automatically disabled.

When this happens, a special notification email is sent to the user who created the alert profile and to the company's primary Enterprise Admin. This email explains that the profile has been disabled and provides the specific error details so the issue can be investigated, fixed, and the profile can be safely re-enabled.
